Many Thoughts On Many Things

Diaconate

Of the making of many books there is no end, and in much study there is weariness for the flesh.
— Ecc 12:12

I was ordained to the diaconate in the Diocese of Nashville on December 20, 2025, and have been assigned to St. William of Montevergine Catholic Church in Shelbyville, TN, starting on January 5, 2026.

Our graduate studies in theology were completed through St. Meinrad Archabbey. Highly recommended. There was so much reading and I came to enjoy the process of research and writing. In addition, having access to an extensive theological library (with all the databases) is very nice. I also recently learned that alumni retain access to the monastery library, which makes me deliriously happy.

Most of my work is clustered around the weekends, but there are also various meetings and whatnot on weeknights. Time management can be tricky sometimes, but things generally seem to work out. When our pastor is out of town, I fill in as much as I can for weekday liturgies: communion services and exposition, for the most part. I preach more often than I expected to. At least once a month on weekends, but as needed for everything else (weddings, baptisms, funerals, &c).
