"Citizens of two cities"
So a replacement thermostat took about five minutes to install and is working fine, so there probably was something wrong with after all. No matter. I can fiddle with the temperatures on my phony. Finally. I’m chalking the entire experience up to: possibly faulty device compounded by user nitwittedness.
Other repairs: ice maker thermistor replaced, the plumber fixed a leak upstairs, and I swapped out some light fixtures. It’s been a very productive couple of days and we wrapped it all up in time for the arrival of all the rain, which we needed desperately. We got a lot of it, and it tapered off just in time for our son’s wedding, which was held outside. There was a backup rain-plan in place but it wasn’t needed. Everyone had fun and it was a blessing to be together with so many friends and family! May God bring to completeness the good work that He has begun in them.
As for us, we decrement the kid counter by one, though their apartment isn’t terribly far away. I expect we’ll see them on the regular for Sunday dinner.
Still meditating on the gospel for next week which isn’t so much about separation as it is about a proper ordering of things. In fact the council fathers called the strict separation of faith and public life “among the more serious errors of our age” in Gaudium et spes. Lots to chew on. I’ll spend next week’s business travel ruminating.
